I parked my car here while I performed the Friday prayers at a Mosque near by today.  The rain trees have created a cool and shady micro-climate in the mini park.

What's Looking Up?

Kuching Roads

Traffic in Kuching business district returns to normal today after having been blocked or diverted at many sections due to the river reggatta held at the Kuching Waterfront for the last three days( 1 - 3 August).  Above is the view of the main road passing the central business district which is the main seat for the 5- star hotels, banks and uptrend shopping complexes.  Towards the end of the road ( to the top of the picture) is where the Kuching Waterfront is.

A section of the highway leading back to Kuching City. This particular location is at Petra Jaya which is the seat of Sarawak's state administration.  Of particular interest is the tastefully done roadside landscaping employing architectural trees and flowering shrubs as well as colourful foliage.

A cotton tree in Kuching

Cottons and cottons everywhere on the lawn at Padang Merdeka, Kuching city. A cu view.

Two young girls are busy collecting cottons falling off from this cotton tree at Kuching's Padang Merdeka lawn. A rare moment not to be missed in Kuching. I was fortunate to witness the cotton tree shedding cotton on the garden floor below. My estimate is that this tree is about 25 m high.

Huge cotton tree

I am back in Kuching after driving a ten hour journey by van on Wednesday last. Yesterday I had to go to the Kuching Waterboard to pay for water reconnection. Just as I was about to approach the Waterboard office, I encountered this huge cotton tree. Kuching can easily parade itself as a botanical city. This type of tree is not available in Bintulu or in any other major towns of Sarawak for that matter.

Shade from rain trees

These 'rain trees' are ideal for Kuching car parks . In our tropical hot and humid climate, we need shade as a necessity.

Tembusu trees at Reserviour Park

I love to just sit in the park and admire the majesty of these tembusu trees. I guess this is the best location to see these huge trees in Kuching. There grow abundantly in this park and surrounding green areas.

Royal Palm trees

Royal Palm trees are in the foreground while tall coconut trees are seen in the background. This is taken during my stroll at waterfront.

Huge ' Angsana Trees'

Big , tall umbrellas above! These overpowering 'angsana trees' are a welcome respite in the afternoon sun ride.

Merdeka Palace

Kuching is practically a botanical city. Here huge rain trees compete for roadside spaces. These huge green canopies provide much needed shade in an increasingly warming urban environment. In the background is the Merdeka Palace Hotel.
